Brighten Up Your Listing Photos

Brighten Up Your Listing Photos

Don’t let your listing’s photos suffer from the winter blues. House hunters are still looking for properties in the cold months of the year, so curb appeal matters—even if the home is buried under a foot of snow. Realtor.com® recently spoke to real estate pros and photographers to uncover a few tips for making online listing photos pop in the winter.

  • Photograph the home on a sunny day. “And preferably around noon,” Benjamin Ross, a real estate pro with Mission Real Estate Group in San Antonio, told realtor.com®. “You don’t want dark spots overshadowing your beautiful home.”
  • Clean the windows. Crystal-clear windows can also make a big difference. Realtor.com® recommends turning up the heat inside the home to keep condensation off the windows.
  • Turn on all the indoor lights. Use the home’s interior lights to make outdoor pictures more inviting. “Even in the daytime, turn on all the lights for more clarity in your images,” Ross suggests.
  • Attend to the landscape. Place colorful flowers around the doorstep. Daniele Kurzweil, a real estate pro with Compass in New York, also suggests taking pictures that are staged around an outdoor fire pit as a focal point. “Instead of shying away from the outdoors in the winter, showcase how your outside space is indeed usable throughout all four seasons,” Kurzweil told realtor.com®.
