Cities for Dog Lovers
Families love their pets, and dogs in particular tend to be a household favorite. But moving can be stressful for a family pet, and realizing that, more buyers are factoring Fido into their buying decisions. Indeed, 81 percent of respondents to a National Association of REALTORS® survey in 2017 said that animal-related considerations play a role when deciding on their next living situation. Ninety-nine percent of pet owners surveyed said they consider their animal part of the family, and many are willing to make sacrifices when it comes to buying and selling homes for their beloved pet.
Real estate brokerage Redfin partnered with Rover, a network of pet sitters and dog sitters, to find the top cities for dog lovers. They analyzed more than 14,000 counties across the country to find the highest count of dog walkers and sitters, as well as total hours and distance per walk by each dog walker. They combined that with data of online listing descriptions that contained the keyword “dog.” The study also pinpointed the most popular breed in each area.
The study found that the following cities go to the dogs:
